DVD decoder software

Anybody recommend any good decoder software? I have a DVD drive, but WMP and RP say they need a plugin to play it. Lots on the web I can pay for, anybody know any good free ones?

I'm not sure what you're after but try either doom9, xvid or divx, just google them and see if there's anything on there. Codecs are free from any of them.

Just want to play a DVD on my computer - nothing complicated. A mate made me a DVD of his car at Brands and it won't seem to play on my PC, just asks for plugins...

I've got DivX installed, but it won't play it.

Has it benn created as a proper 'DVD' or is it an MPEG file you can browse and see on the disc?

I think it's a proper DVD, but I'm not sure, here's the file name:

VTS_01_1.VOB

It's one of about 6 in the folder.....

As far as i'm aware this is free (It should work because i'm sure your dvd won't be encrypted):

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Failing that do a search for 'Media Player Classic' which will play about anything

If you don't have any luck I have got a load of codec files which I can email you - haven't a clue if the one you need is in there but you never know
