I want to copy all my LP's onto CD and the only PC which is close to my hi-fi is my laptop, which only has a mono input (mic). I bought a USB
sound box from Maplin (link here) which has a line in as I
hoped this would work. Unfortunately, whilst it will allow mic input, with the line in nothing gets to the laptop - I can hear it through the
headphones socket, but can't record it. The sound box works for output from the laptop too.
Is there a setting I might have missed (I have tried them in all the sound settings/volume controls) or do you think the box may not do what I want? I
will call Maplin on Tuesday, but would like to get it sorted before then.
Have you enabled the line in for recording in Volume control properties?
Ditto above - or if you have seperate software driver for your audio card may be on that.
That would have been my answer too. Hard disk audio is my 'thing' if you like.
Anyway - find the record settings in the advanced settings bit of your volume panel - like they said.
Yep - done that. When I tick the microphone one, and plug in to the "mic in" it works thorugh to sound recorder, but it I tick the line in and plug into line in I get nothing through to the laptop.
I have a usb video / audio device. There is a separate setting in the properties dialog. Does yous have something similar?
your definately going into options - properties on your volume slider window and selecting 'recording'
???
what prograam have you selcetd to record your music?
total recorder is a great little proggie and with the lame encoder will direct encode to mp3

Just talked it through with Maplin and they reckon the unit may be faulty so I am sending it back - hopefully the replacement will work better!
