Norton Problems
DorsetStrider - 31/3/06 at 08:47 AM

Hiya all.

Need some help / advise.

After my old man got infected by a virus for the 9 millionth time we did a factory reset on his computer. I then loaded Norton ( I know I know you don't have to say it) that's when we hit a real problem.

As I said I installed both Norton Utilities and Norton Internet Security. After installing NIS the computer frose, In the end and with a lack of anything we could do we turned off the computer and turned it back on. Now when we try to log in it takes literally HOURS just to get to the desk top.

Any advice would be very gratefully received. How do you do a safe boot of windows XP? if we do that could I then uninstall norton?

Go into safe mode by pressing F8 during boot up. You can then hopefully uninstall Norton.

Even if it installs properly norrton can be a pig to clear out but before doing anything drastic try doing a system restore from safe mode back the point before norton was installed -- however a pound to a penny Norton will stop you doing it.

Don't joke hellfire.... it might come to that!

Cheers guys will give f8 and system restore a go tonight and see what happens. With my luck the computer will explode causing a massive power surge which crashes the internet and causes the meltdown of several nuclear power stations. *sigh* such is life.

from symantec site there are a couple of utilities to clear out the registry etc
if you cant find it, i have them on one of the computers here - i'll email them on (if you can get your system up that is )
