Hi Folks,
I'm hoping someone knows the solution to this:-
I have a wired network in my house consisting of a ADSL router and a few PC's.
what I would like to do is to to connect my PSP (which uses 802.11b in infrastructure mode) to this network, I have bought a wifi USB dongle
(supporting 802.11b/g) intending to get windows XP to bridge the 2 connections and make it all work but I'm a bit stuck - I bridge the two, but
the PSP will not see the PC (and nowhere has the PC asked me to set up SSID/WEp etc). can this actually be done or should i take the dongle back and
get a cheap access point from ebuyer??
Cheers.
But it will depend how far goes the implementation of the 802.11b in your psp console.
Can you setup there the ip/gateway/dns?
can you select there the wifi id?
i wouldn't bridge because then its to needed that the pc is online /on and active.
Would just buy a wifi station
Tks
Would probably be easier to get a wireless access point. You won't get asked about wep or ssid as those are setup in an access point. There
should be settings in the software for the dongle to find an ssid or if the connection uses wep.
For the setup you have you will need to setup an AdHoc network for the 2 wirless devices to talk to each other. Make sure all the ip addresses are in
the same range, I.E 192.164.159.??? or what ever your network range is and you should be fine.
Yeh, i'd say a wireless access point would be easier since they are just plugged into your router and are easy to set up (On ours when I used
one, just plugged in it and away you since it set itself up detecting settings from the router). I bet a WAP wouldn't be more expensive than a
dongle anyway. Also, wireless would also be on all the time so a PC wouldn't have to be on to use your PSP.

Thanks for the tips guys, I think I'm just gonna take the dongle back and get myself a cheap access point to save the hassle.
