Trying to get MS Internet Explorer (version 6) on my old windows 98 laptop which is not internet equiped. (apparently i need visual basic runtime or
something to run other programs n this comes with IE?)
Cant download it on desktop pc as it just says newer version has been detected, cant downlaod. Can i get around this?

Click download and save the .exe file.
Install on laptop.
If not download an old version of IE5 (search google) and use that.
look at the file size, 480kb. Its a sub installer on the MS site. this then hooks up to internet and downloads the program (with problems mentioned
above). Think Iv got it now, jus downloaded visual basic runtime on its own...

You can download IE on its own from most freeware sites. It also comes on the free CDs on the front of PC magazines!
just a note, the new explorer- the beta version, takes up a hell of a lot of ram, an old laptop may not be able to hack it- especially if your running
antivirus software.

You can get the VB runtimes seperately from IE6. here is a page of links to downloads.

As for IE6 update be aware the IE update is MASSIVE the install virtually replaces and updates all of the windows functions that relate to internet
security.
