Outlook and server issues - HELP!
tadltd - 14/6/06 at 10:20 PM

Don't know if my PC's picked up a virus or not (although I've run a virus checker, NoAdware, and Spybot and found nothing) but I now can't upload my e-mails from my server into Outlook. This only just happened last night.

My wife can upload hers though, and I can log into the server without problem. However, I've also found that I can't access other sites (e.g. scottishsevens.proboards28.com) - I've checked the settings in Outlook and re-entered all my info' to no avail.

Can anyone suggest what's going on and how I fix it, please?!

I'm running WinXP, MSOffice2003, connected through Belkin WiFi.

Thanks in advance!

This is similar to a problem I had on Tuesday & Wednesday when I could't access most of my bookmarked pages & intermittently, my email. When my wife got home with her laptop, I tried that & it too suffered the same problem, so definetly not a machine issue. Much talking talking to a very nice lady somewhere on the sub-continent resulted in absolutly no progress. What ever issue it was appeared to have cleared itself by Wed evening & things are now back to normal (at least, for a while).

I'm on Tiscali btw, consensus of opinion was an ISP issue.

Hmmm... I'm also on Tiscali... Never had problems like this before, tho'

I don't understand why I can connect to some site (like Locost) and not others.

I also don't understand why I can't connect to the server to download my e-mail, but my wife - who's on the same server - can?!

I hate computers!

Would it be a bandwidth problem? I only suggest this because some of the pictures on Locostbuilders aren't loading.

No, I have never had any probs with Tiscali either. But the last 2 days nearly drove me up the wall. Exact same problem as you describe. Logging on to this site was never a problem but others, including my internet banking, just displayed 'Firefox cannot find www......). As I say probably 60% of my bookmarked sites were inaccessable along with others I entered including the likes of Edinburgh University.

Mail was more erratic rather than unobtainable. Somtimes I could log on & download mail, other times IE just threw up an error message (can't remember what it was).

The fact that my wifes laptop was having exactly the same problems proved it wasn't machine related & although I tried to explain this to the help desk, they still wanted me to go through emptying my cache etc which I had done anyway along with all the usual suspects. I'm absolutly certain this is a server problem but I can't explain why it would be affecting users intermittently.

Sorry, I know that's not much help. If it's any comfort, I'm now operating as if nothing had happened.
