limewire and firewalls
JoelP - 21/6/06 at 08:23 PM

my new computer is playing silly buggers, limewire says it cant access the internet, and suggests firewall problems. Im using the standard xp firewall, and cant remember how to modify it. Any pointers?!

Start,settings,control pane, windows firewall.
Turn it all off or allow an exception

do you find a lot of the stuff limewire has on it is riddled with viruses? Is eem to get it a lot. OOOPS1! I mean my "friend" gets a lot of viruses from it, of course.

hope not! I only download mp3s, surely they cant hide viruses in songs?!

True. My "friend" uses it for downloading software, I think, although not any more as it's not worth it.

Most of the virus's are put in for a reason... to stop you using them. Legitimate software companies IMO release apparently working software (which it obviously isn't) and put trojans and virii in it. This often upsets the downloader and renders him 'a convert'.

Fortunately, some people don't only resort to this method of downloading. I hear DC++ is useful in this instance....

Software companies need to make money as do record Companies but the more rubbish they churn out I think promotes downloading as it makes buyers more wary of what they buy - as in, 'is it really any good'. I download mp3's in both album and single format's. if I like it - I go and buy it, simple! Nothing is as good as the real thing in terms of sleeves and lyrics etc etc...

ATEOTD - software, cd's - in fact anything which is any good will stand the test of time.
