I need to buy a new computer - just the base unit, as I have a decent screen, keyboard and track-ball mouse. Nothing too whizzy as I don't run
games, just t'internet and office stuff.
I don't want something with XP installed as I'll be running Linux. I'm either going to buy one of those 'barebones' systems,
or collect the bits and assemble it myself.
The question is, can anyone recommend a decent supplier of stuff like this?

www.Ebuyer.co.uk are cheap for components - a painin the arse if you need to send anything back though.
I built my own from bits and it works fine.

if you have built feel free to but it isnt much different to barebones prices and if anythings wrong its there problem but they test everything proir
to dispatch.
to just get upand running, you should only need barebones and hd. they all have on board graphics and sound now.
they use good manufactures. ASUS (-sp?) or motherboards. Pentium and AMD for chips.
service is good. i am very fussy and have a few times disputed a few things such as a moniter sold as black but arrived with a silver front. but thats
never been on cases or internals which they obviously have to see before they sell.
always worth keeping an eye on their clearance page. sometimes a bargin in there, but often full of the serious networking kit overpriced for us.

I use Novatech a lot as they're just around the corner from me, and have been very pleased with them. They're amongst the cheapest, and as I

I bought one of their "motherboard bundles" a year or so back (motherboard, with processor and memory preinstalled) and have been very
pleased with it. I just took the old motherboard out the case, and put the new one in for an instant upgrade.
Just make sure your case and power supply are compatible with the new stuff before ordering!

i use overclockers.co.uk for all my pc bits. They have some cracking deals on at the moment, mainly high end bits tho.
They sell barebone and parts. Just dont go to thier shop (internet based mainly) or u will want to take a chair with u. The ques are massive.
U can specify the systems they do to not install XP and save some cash.
ssc.co.uk is where i got my pc from many moons ago. dont think they do bits tho...

We bought an Apple Mac G5 imac off of ebay for £600, not bad for the quality of the machine. Would never go back to P.C's now I love the apple
too much. Ebay isn't bad when your looking for bits either.

If you buy from them, you have zero chance of cancelling under the distance selling regs. They just refuse to honour them even though they quote them

I buy from tekheads . They are good on returns, although I only ever had one problem, a DOA hard drive which they replaced by return post.
Well, I spent some cash on a Novatech barebones system...
My, it's FAST! 
Just had to say that... now I've got to transfer all my files etc. onto the new box.
