Hi, has anybody experience with Sky b/band installation?
My daughter has recently changed from cable to Sky, for the "free" b/band facility. Trouble is, there is no available socket, for the PC,
near to the Sky phone point.
I assume that I'll have to connect the PC to the phone line, just after this ASDL device? Can someone pleasde confirm?
Here's a pic of the existing phone connection.

I may be picking this up incorrectly, but, it looks like you have a wireless (and possibly) wired modem/firewall/hub already connected, can't you
just conect the PC to that, or do I not understand what you are trying to do here?
Cheers

you either need a lan card in the back of your pc (if it hasnt already got one) for a cable connection or a wireless connection with either a usb
dongle or a internal pci card
all can be bought for less than £20

I've got sky adsl and looks like exactly the same wireless netgear router that I have. Go and buy a usb wireless network dongle thing, from about
£12 for a dabs value upto £30+ on highstreet stores.
something like
this
If you need to connect to the router iirc type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 from you web browser, default userid is admin and password is sky, best to
change the password. you'll also need the wpa key (network ssid) as on the sticker on the underside of the router or the card that came in the
box.
Any probs drop me a u2u. There's loads of info on google about these boxes too.
Ned.
Fellas - Thanks for the feedback, and for Ned's advice. I'll swan off down to Maplin's to see what they have on offer.

Dick,
I have found Maplins to be on the dear side for PC related items.
Good for other items that you need now and don't want to pay postage on though.
I use the likes of Scan and Micro Direct. There must be others near you of a similar ilk.
Cheers,
Colin
