We are on a LLU loop but if we want to change broadband providers (ie to Sky broadband) we are off line for 4 weeks, any way round it, regards Alan.
Not until Ofcom really get tough with the LLU / BB suppliers and the issuing of release codes.....
Have a second phone line installed....
Explain further, please.
A second line on the existing number isn't really going to resolve the problem.
A new contract with a new number and all the expense that entails is the only way.

My gf's got it in her place and seem to work well enough from what I can tell from messing around on her laptop when i'm round there.
Had to reboot the router a couple of times due to dog slow conection speed but that's about it.

Thats not what he said... install a second line. That's what I've got, makes it easier! Will be changing from Tiscali soon as they are well PMO... anyone got Sky BB? Is it any good? (Sorry for the hijack!)
Steve
Yes you have to pay for a new line cos that's what it is... I have my fax machine running on it, aswell as other things...
Steve
If you want to move to Sky, get in the que like every one else.
Gods country

You shouldn't have any gap between broadband suppliers when migrating, all you should need to do is ask your broadband supplier for the the MAC
(sometimes called CBUK) code, just give this to your new supplier.
I have migrated three times without any disruption.
As for putting in a second BT line in the current cost is around 120 pounds + line rental. It usually takes about 3 weeks.
I currently have two lines with broadband connections one with Plusnet the other as a "25mb" ADSL2 connection with Be.
In reality the Be connection runs exactly twice as fast as an 8 mb ADSL Max connection for the £14 quid a month
Are you on a LLU loop? we are and thats the problem, regards Alan.
I've moved from plusnet to sky a few months ago now. Got the mac code, got the date and the service was switched the same day so was totally
seemless to me. I'm on the free 2mb connection. made a few tweaks to the wireless router and you have to run xp sp2 for the best encryption but
had no service issues whatsoever which is more than i can say for plusnet before.
Ned.
I switched from Eclipse -> Sky all without any downtime, yes im on LLU.
And you dont have to use the router that sky sends you
do a search onthe adslguide.org forums in the sky section and that will tell you how to get
your username and password out.
Sky install service is pretty slick. Certainly better than many others.
Stephen
PS For those that can't be bother to go searching, the default username / password for the supplied Netgear box is sky / admin.
PPS Designing carrier network services is my day job....
