Following on from my expolits with megajolt. When i try to check my serial cable in hyperterminal on my laptop i keep getting an error message that
another device is using the selected telephony.
Doing the same on my desktop at work doesnt give this. Loopback test works OK.
When i try connecting MJLJ to the laptop serial port it keeps saying that Com1 is in use.
Can anyone tell me how to find out what is using Com1 so i can attempt to stop it?
I have Nokia software installed - could this be the problem. Im not convinced as i connect the phone to USB.
Cheers,

try running sysinfo - system information and have a look at the conflicts/sharing page and the components section under ports and see if there are any
conflicts shown.
Also have a look under device manager and make sure the port is listed and shown as okay.
If the above comes back as okay check and see if the port parameters in the software are set to the same as the port you are trying to use.
Hope that helps
Cheers
Alex
I've seen this before, if you still have problems you could try changing the com port number that your USB - serial adaptor is using, in Control
panel - system - hardware - device manager - ports (from memory), and connect using that.

the easiest method i found when i used to use windows 95 and 98 and even Me, was to format the hard disk, and do a clean install... trust me, it takes
less time doing this than figuring out what .sys file to modify or finding that odd modem app you used to have two centuries ago and still exists in
your system even after you had deleted it two centuries ago.
used to have massive problems with LPT (printer) and com ports and specially that wretched joystick port which never worked until they invented USB.
If you have a PocketPC or PalmOS sync application then it'll grab the port too.
Most likely that the Nokia software is the cause though.
I have never connected a PDA as such to this lappy. I did however try and connect a Sony P800 a while back. Ive uninstalled the software today.
I have had some success. Managed to download brays terminal. Connected MJLJ to laptop via USB / serial adaptor (first i uninstalled its software,
reconnected device and reinstalled driver).
It configured iteslf to Com8. As Com8 is not an option in the MJLJtune software i reset it to com2. Followed instruction about terminal and managed to
get a hex reply from the megajolt which is a step forward.
However i still cant get the laptp to talk to megajolt via the configuration software.
Ill have no hair left soon. Ive posted a help plea on Brents site.
If the USB-Serial adaptor is a Prolific chipset (PL230x) then get the latest drivers from http://www.prolific.com.tw/support/files//IO%20Cable/PL-2303/Drivers%20-%20Generic/Windows/wd_pl2303h-hx-x_v20019v2021.zip
All sorted, many thanks for your help.
It was a combination of uninstalling the phone software and playing about with com settings and checking results with brays terminal that got it all
working.
Email from Mr Picasso helped me with a new version of the MJLJ software and it all works now. The secondary problem after the ports fiasco was that
the Java based software was simply not working.
Once it was all sussed a new light appeared on the USB adaptor and we had communication.
To say im happy is a gross understatement!!
