COM Port problem

This ones freeker!

Anyone here heard of a virus/nastyware that knocks out COM ports, not IP ports but COM ports either the old ones or possibly the ones lnked to USB ports

Haven't heard of one that does that for years now, what symptoms are you are getting?

Presuming firstly that you have run full AV/adware/spayware/malware/rootkit scans and ruled them out.
Have you tried any hardware diags on the ports, loopback tests etc, to try and confirm whether it is a hardware based problem?
Are the symptoms the same on traditional hardware comm ports and usb ports?
What devices are you running through the ports?
Is it XP or Vista you are running?
Are there any related errors being logged in event viewer?
Are there any other system problems, slowdowns, high CPU usage, runaway processes etc?

Whew, hows that to be going on with?

Turns out they where running the wrong version of the software we sent them, muppets

Thanks for the pointers though, If we ever meet there's a pint or a burger and cuppa on me!

LOL...now if you had said straight away that users were involved I could have given a much quicker diagnosis...never trust the damn users!
