Does anyone know of a way to connect Sky+ to a PC so that I can record all of my saved recordings to DVD.
I know you can dump them onto a DVD recorder, but the only DVD burner I have is in my computer.
I'm pretty sure that this can't be done.
Even if it could be done the recordings are held in an encrypted state on the sky+ box, so if you were able to copy them off the HD you still need to
de-crypt them.
There are 2-PC like connections on the back of my Sky+ box and USB socket and a 9-pin serial port. The serial port is going to be used for a game
controller and the USB is to be used with a video ipod type device sky *were* planning on bringing out to allow you to watch recordings on the move.
No doubt for more money every month. I would imaging that device would require some kind of viewing card / chip as well for decryption purposes.
I don't think anyone has succeeded getting a PC to talk to a Sky+ box using this connection.
I would love to know of a way to transfer (digitally) to PC if anyone knows better!
Definately can't be done by just connecting USB to USB - tried and failed at that one!
I guess the only real way is for me to buy a DVD recorder (they're getting fairly cheao now anyway) - I just didn't want yet another box
under the TV along with the PS2, Sky box and surround sound.
I have a LiteOn DVD recorder and it's not a bad job, but as you say it's another box and another remote control!
The big problem is if you want to record 4 hours of TV it will take 4 hours, during which you can't watch anything else on your sky+. It would
be much better to bung it onto a PC and burn it at x8 or x16.
Can only be done currently if you have a TV card in your PC.
Might as well spend £60 on a DVD recorder then!
