Ive had BT Broadband installed for about a year now but it seems to be getting slower, when i do an asdl speed check i d/l at about 2.1mbps and upload
at about 0.5mbps. I thought i would d/l bt BB desktop help thing 36mb it says with broadband it should d/l in about 3 mins it taken 1hr 55mins. so i
install it and it tells me i need to d/l the upgrade another 1hr and 50mins. mean time the f***ing desktop helpless bloody thing has changed all my
settings so another 1/2 hr setting that up. so the big question is do i tell bt to **** off and try someone else or do i stick with them. To be honest
i havn't heard or any bb supplier with a 100%. sorry for the sweary words but i like things that do exactly what they say on the tin. also i am
using mcafee security.

what coincidence just been talking on line to one of their advisers and they said ignore the bt help desk and use one of the online speed testers.dont make sense
Noticed the same problem ... taking longer to load data.
ps Hows ths build going Dave?
Looks like either a contention issue or the ADSL equipment at the exchange is going bell up , I had that happen on my line after being about 2 years
on broadband it took ages to get it sorted
You might want to consider changing to BE
Be broadband is ADSL2 -- you get exactly twice the BEST speed a normal ADSL supplier can give you over the same distance from the exchange.
Downside with Be is you don't get a mail account, however unlike BT they tell you of any problems on the network.
BT having been talking about introducing BT ADSL2+ for over 2 years and still haven't done it.

BT Retail has issued a statement about congestion on its broadband network:
" Broadband usage in the UK has been one of the great consumer technology success stories and we are aware that this accelerating demand has
meant that a few exchanges can be congested at very busy times. The broadband team at BT Retail is working with our BT Wholesale colleagues to resolve
this issue as soon as possible.
In BT Retail we are currently conducting a programme that is already introducing extra bandwidth availability and we are also working with
technology that further improves the way that broadband traffic is managed at peak times. Both of these initiatives will improve your experience and
if you are amongst the small number of broadband users that have been experiencing slower speeds through congestion you should be noticing
improvements shortly, if you're not doing so already.
BT Retail Statement "
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Users on our BT Broadband forum have recently been expressing concerns over slow speeds. The traffic shaping which they are alluding to has been
controversial in a number of ways when other providers have introduced stricter shaping policies, although the effect of these should help most
average users have a better browsing experience."
I've just left Tiscali to go to TalkTalk3 - 8 Meg BB, FREE landline calls and no BT line rental. A small hiccup at first but OTH I'm
satisfied with it.
PS 8 Meg doesn't actually mean anything, so don't think it is 8Mb or 8MB. It's 8 Meg!!! I'm sure that is illegal actually... it is
kind of a misleading Ad Campaign!
Download speeds are currently between 350Kbps - 500Kbps... depending on time of day.

You must live a fair distance from the exchange my down load speed this morning on the thinkbroadband tester is 4962.58 Kbps at just over 2 miles from the exchange.
Like most computer specifications read 8M as 'will never exceed 8M'
They are using the same units as everyone else so I think they'd get away with the advertising, though I agree it's not clear.
Apologies for all the f'in. How did you manage to edit my original post fozzie
