Dell Laptop Problem

inspiron 1501 bought in march

my laptop screen flickers between horizontal green lines and the normal display when returning from standby

anyone got any ideas for a fix

i have already installed the undated display driver

I thought Dells normally sort themselves out by setting on fire after a few months

You should diagnose where the fault is first before trying anything. Nicked these tips from my big book of tips I've collected:

Connect the laptop to an external monitor. If the external video is fine, you have a problem with the LCD screen or the internal LCD video cable. You can try to fix the problem by reseating the video cable on the back of the LCD and on the system board.

If you see the same flickering/garbled video on the external monitor then most likely it is not the LCD screen problem. In this case the system board (with onboard video) is bad or the video card is bad.

You could always backup all your data and do a reinstall, if the fault continues after reinstall its probably hardware, then get Dell to fix it.

tried a couple of different versions of display driver and have solved the problem now
