Reading STL files
RazMan - 17/9/07 at 10:17 AM

I've got some chassis and bodywork drawings that I would like to edit. They are STL files so I need to know which of the basic CAD packages will be able to read them.

Any ideas?

Define basic. I know for a fact Pro/Engineer and Solidworks would be suitable. ProDesktop 8 will export stereolithography files but not import.

I am fairly proficient with 2D progs like CorelDraw etc but 3D is a bit daunting to me so I need a novice style prog that will allow basic editing (moving a chassis rail, tweaking a door measurement etc) so that I can make a new CNC buck in foam or something similar.

Solidworks will handle STL files just fine. YOu can import them as a solid body or surface body which is nice...
