Help - can't delete a folder
Jasper - 3/11/07 at 11:02 AM

I've got a folder within a folder in My Doc's both of which are empty and were put there by a previous Spam filter I have.

Now when I try to delete it I can't because it says:

Cannot delete Cloudmark Desktop 4.3 for Outlook: cannot find the specific file. Make sure you specify the correct path and file name.

This is really annoying becasue I do full back-ups every week. When I want to delete the older back-ups I cannot do it in one go because when it gets to this folder it throws up the error and stops.

So how can I get rid of it techie-heads?????

Try logging on in Safe Mode and deleting from there.

Greg.

I've seen this problem caused by the following problem and fixed by the suggested method.

Unfortunately, because I know nothing about MSDos I can't follow those instructions..... cos I can't write in Dos - though it does look the right thing .....

I'll try the Safe Mode method later when I have to turn off the PC....

Thanks chaps so far...

You could download and burn a Linux live CD like Ubuntu which will mount the windows partition and then you can just browse to the file or folder in question and delete it. You also get the bonus of trying out Linux if you haven't previously.

I'd try using a utility called Unlocker. It can find the files that are using your folder/file and close them and then in turn delete the folder.
Really useful and can delete most files/folders that Windows sometimes decides are in use when they're not!!

Use with caution but may be just what you need?

and the application...
