We have an ancient Epsom LQ2070 printer at work, used for printing orders and invoices etc.
It's bust.
We have a spare set of gears for it, but no service manual. I have managed to down load the user manual, but it's rubbish.
I have found a couple of service manuals on the internat, but they are .rar files? I can't seem to get them to open.
Can any techi wizard help me either open the service manuals or offer instruction on changing the gearbox on a printer.
Cheers
Mike
Winrar is free
RAR files are like ZIP files but Winzip or Windows XP can't open them. Download a program called WinRAR to open them up.
As above - I prefer WinRar to winzip myself.

Downloaded WinRar, but every time I try to open the files it says "you need to start extraction from a previous volume"
?

Peazip handles all kinds of archives and its completetly free GPL -- it is available for both Windows and Linux
http://peazip.sourceforge.net/
ISTR I had the gear train in bits on one these years back -- fiddly but I got it back together.
If the business really depends on a dot matrix printer for 2 part invoice printing it is worth getting a newer Epson LQ , the models that pass the
paper over the top of the printer are very good.
I prefer 7-zip, its really free (unlike winrar) and open source.
If it's talking about "previous volumes" it means you got a file which has been RARd into numerous segments (usually done to get round
a maximum file size e.g. to split a big file into floppy disc type chunks- old skooool)...
You have to have all the segments in the same directory then open the first one, it will automatically do the rest...
Sorted, got the manual from another site. Its 186 pages long, and I think I'd rather re-build a Type 9 gearbox than this one!
