For the past few years I've been with PlusNet - they've not been too bad, if you ignore their recent e-mail cock-ups, but I'm on an old
package that seems to be getting down-graded as time goes on. It's also getting expensive for what I get. The latest thing I wanted to do was
run some CGI scripts - but I can't have them, and they suggest that I 'upgrade' to another package that has more limitations and
restrictions. The new packages include all sorts of stuff I don't want, and don't want to pay for, e.g. a wireless router (I've got a
very good wired one), phone packages (I've got a good deal elsewhere), and other such rubbish.
So I'm looking for an ISP that will give me:
* Decent operating speed; I'm on an 'up to 8Mb' connection at the moment, which is the best I'll get where I live (in the sticks,
no cable).
* Low contention
* Fairly generous monthly allowance
* E-mail
* Web-site space
* Decent e-mail and phone support
I'm even prepared to pay a decent amount for all this!
Can anyone recommend a good supplier?
(BTW - I've had previous bad experiences with BT and Virgin, so they're off the list!)
cheers,
David
I can recommend swift internet LINKY we have them a business partner so pass on work to them, never let us down,
not the cheapest but very good service when you need it. Maybe worth getting there number and speaking to Martin Stanley (MD) lovely guy to see which
package he suggests to you. Mention me and you'll be alright

Why not do your web hosting with a hosting company and then use any ISP for your connection?
I use 34sp.com which costs £18 pa for the hosting side on my domain and then use Pipex for the connection. This has the advantage that if you change
ISP then you don't have to change email addresses and website name.
I'd 2nd Jeds approach and use Be for the ADSL part as they are getting good reviews, pricing is excellent and speeds/limits are top rate.

I'm with SKY. Don't install any software and crack the router. Jobs a good un. I would get seperate hosting from somewhere like host unlimited etc.
You don't need to take the home phone with Plusnet
I think the Plusnet web site may have confused you.
Go to http://www.plus.net/?home=hometop click on Broadband from 9.99
Plusnet Option 2 without home phone gives you CGI with 8gig peak time + free overnight usage for 14.99 per month.
If the web site is really important to you go with someone else for the hosting --- lot of advantages and doesn't cost much.
I fully recomend Tiscali they are unlimited accounts with very good reliability. I use an ipsec VPN and unlike alot of ISP's they do not block
the traffic on these ports.
The best bit is i pay for 2mb and actually get 2mb without living in the exchange :-)
