Anyone know where I can get a domain name valued?
I've been approached by an American company who sell web building software who want to buy my domain at a "fair price".
However, I'd like to get an independent idea of what a "fair price" is.
I'm happy that there can be no claims to be cybersquatting as I registered, and have used the domain for my build diary for quite some time, and I'd never heard of the US company until I looked at google searches showing in my site's referrals.

How do I get from what they're willing to offer, to what they're willing to pay?

I'm afraid that I don't the answer myself, but I do think it's a very good name that you've got!

I also think it's not going to diminish in value...

start with double to price of all the upgrades you want to buy and see how you get on

It cost our company about £25K to buy the name we wanted. It was owned by a God squad church in the US!

ibuilt.it probably isn't worth much to anyone else. again, as said before, its only worth what they're willing to pay for it.

think the only way to find out is to tell them what you want for it, and how much they'll pay

Personally I ask themn to make an initial offer as you have been approached by another party. It's a gamble at the end of the day, how good are you?

Negotiation - if you're no good at haggling, find someone that is...

Most domain sales are at silly prices. Make sure the company is on he level and that you can transfer the name, it has to be properly registered to you and not your ISP. Also make sure you have domain control before ISP gets to know you are negotiating as they may suddenly want to charge you a whole bunch of money to manage the transfer.

Once you suss out the size of the buyer's organisation you should be able to figure what they are likely to be able to pay. If it is a really big corporate try $10,000 if it is a start up the range will likely be $2,500 to $5,000, do haggle and don't go below $2,500, unless you are desperate for cash.

I bought a domain originally offered at $5,000 for £1,000 from a UK intermediary rather than the US vendor who wouldn't haggle. The intermediary found out I was interested and placed a hold on the name so when it came up for renewal they got it to sell to me, so make sure you have paid a few years up front on your domain through the registrar.

GoDaddy is a reputable company that I have registered quite a few names with. Generally speaking Dot Com names will always be worth far more than Dot IT or any of the other lesser known extensions.
