Avast here on all my computers! wouldn't have owt else.

Like AVG also free.....

Norton is pants!

Edit to add......as its a new pc, get SpyBot and Ad-Aware SE (all free) or similar.........to protect against spy ware, hi-jacks etc

Definately AVG. My 'puter was slow as hell - Norton said all was fine and dandy. AVG picked up 2500 infected files!

i am using
AVG, Adaware
and Norton security scan free through google pack.

I used to use AVG, but the updates got a bit too large and too frequent... it was also hard on the limited resources on my antique machines.

However, Avast gets small updates very frequently and doesn't hit the resources anywhere near as hard when it's running.

Both do their job well, but if you have an older or more limited machine (CPU and/or memory) I'd choose Avast.

Norton used to be my favourite choice but I changed to AVG (full version) and was amazed how much quicker my 'puter was.
Norton is one hell of a resource hog and is best roasted on a spit imo

that's why I'm up so late, I removed that bl**dy norton trash (that again wanted more money) and ran AVG on both my machines. 23 viruses on the good computer an 67!!!! on the old one. Man I'm so spent a fortune on norton.

I’m off to bed, night

I moved from Norton to AVG a while back and no problems until yesterday While surfing looking for Belgian bus sites in google I opened a page which then promptly TOLD ME that my machne was slow and did I want to down load a Malware program. tried to close it and it kept coming up with "are you sure" pop ups.
Anyways after a scheduled scan 20mins later I have the downloader.tibs virus on my machine
I don't know why it got past my router firewall and AVG (I mean it picked it up on a scan so why let it download????).
I think its gone Ok now as subsequent scans have been OK.

Avira AntiVir® PersonalEdition Classic is 100% reliable, uses minimal computer resources, gives less false posatives and looks tasteful (some free AV programs have horrible interfaces).

http://www.free-av.com/

The only advantage payed for version is that the update server is much faster.
