To all you experts, and weary MS users,
HELP!!!!! My daughter is running Windows XP (Home ed), and has recently found that she cannot open MS Word. It merely starts off, with the initial
banner, then hangs.......permanently.
Have run the "repair" procedure, in Windows Add/Remove, still no joy. So I de-installed and then cleaned the hard drive via System tools.
Re-installed MS Office, then re-started PC. When Word selected, same thing happens.
Anyone else running older MS Office (2000) with Windows XP? Which updates/patches are required?
Hope someone out there is the right genius.
Dick

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately it didn't work. We went through the Start menu, "Run", then typed in "winword.exe /a", which did work. But it won't reset the Normal.dot template, so Word still hangs on startup, unless using the "Run" method described above.
Another way, is via "run", "regedit", then scroll through the HKEY files shown as specified in this link :-

We're still working on the problem.
Thanks for this suggestion. Gotta try everything.
