Hi all,
My laptop only came with a trial version of MS Office when i bought it so I am unable to now use Word / Excel etc.
What is the best (meaning Locost) method of getting hold of a full copy of this?? I only need to sort out my CV so not keen on spending a fortune.
Cheers
Paul
Download a copy of Open Office for Windows - same as the Linux version, but Microsofted!
Has all the functionality of the MS Office suite and a bit more, but will read write MS Word and Excel files without problems.
OO Link
you can download a free 60 day trail of office 07 off the MS site or you can get open office for free from openoffice.org which does all the same stuff

superb - thanks guys. Just downloading it now.
LocostBuilders does it again!!!!
Other main free word processor is Abiword much less resource hungry than Open Office which can be frustratingly slow on older harware.
Abiword is really nice to use much like Word For Windows 2 or Word95, which were by far the best versions of MSWord

I second OpenOffice. It also has a PowerPoint-alike application.
Only downside I have found is that Excel macros don't work.
One tip: if you want proper MS-Word and Excel compatible files, make sure you set the option to (something like) Convert from Word/Excel on Open,
Convert to Word/Excel on Close. That way, what gets saved on the disk is always in MS format
Bittorrents are a good source of practically ANY software for 'trial purposes'
Has anyone come across a .docx file, aparently its for word 07?
Is there any way of opening it with word 03?

Thanks for the replies one and all. I have now downloaded OpenOffice so will see how it goes. I might try an alternative if its no good but am sure it
will be just fine
Cheers
