What goes in here, it looks like PCMCIA but it isn't. I need a card to get from here to a 9 pin RS232 but I dont know what I want to look for.
The local Maplin wont have one in until the end of the month and I cant wait that long. I have tried to take pictures of the dummy card and the slot
it goes in but they are not great.
Anyone help?

What is the make and model of the laptop?
O
Looks like PCMCIa TO ME?
Lenovo, brand new company laptop, bought to provide NC code to an old 2 axis profiler. USB is no good to us for some reason.
I will try to find the model now.
My bet is a Express/54 slot.
O
99% sure it is this one.

You could always use a USB to RS232 Serial converter if you can't get something for the Express slot.
It's PC card express
PCMCIA was renamed to PC Card quite a few years ago

The 34 mm form factor cards fit into both 34 mm and 54 mm card slots via a diagonal guide in the rear of the 54 mm slot that guides the card to the
connector. The 54 mm card will only fit in a 54 mm slot.
Confirmed It is a Express/54 Slot

Complete connectivity :-
N Series models offer four side-accessible, high-speed USB 2.0 ports; a 5-in-1 card reader and a PCMCIA slot, as well as S-Video, VGA, RJ11, RJ45 and
1394 FireWire (4-pin) connections. Together, these provide broad compatibility with many consumer devices such as digital cameras, digital camcorders,
USB storage devices, game controllers, MP3 players and more. New N200 models offer a standard ExpressCard/54 slot instead of a PCMCIA slot to
support the latest high performance, high-bandwidth peripherals.
HTH.

Omni - I cant seem to find the text that you have copied in but that looks right to me.
Matt - that is exactly what I want, at the right price too.
Thanks very much.
David
I dont think that card above will work as it is only Compliant with ExpressCard/34mm Type II standard. You need a 54.
O
I thought 34mm cards were fine in 54mm slot? That's how it's designed?
If you get a Thinkpad port replicator you get a serial port among other things - cheap on eBay too.
