MP3 player advice
locoboy - 24/3/08 at 10:36 AM

Mrs Locoboy has gor a new car, its a BMW 335 and it does not have a cd changer in it.

It does however have an Aux Jack in the centre armrest thingy.

Im looking for advice on what mp3 player you would recommend that has the following features.

Fairly large screen so that tracks can be changed whilst driving with ease.

Simple navigation menus.

Cheers

I use my phone - but then I've already got a half decent phone that can take 2Gb of MP3's (and the new one comes next week that can take 8Gb+ )

I've got wired headset that takes normal headphones (and has a call answer + mic)

it gives me a locost mp3 + hands free all in one

the headset cost £5 off ebay, the phone's free on the contract and the memory cards are £7 +P&P for 2Gb (or £32 for 8Gb if your phone can take it - most can't yet)

just have to make sure the volume isn't too high when your an a call (feedback )

My dad bought a Sansa solid state one, cost him not a lot for 8gig and the screen and sound quality are great.

I've also used my phone, but for ease of track changes I'd say iPod, a Touch if you don't mind splashing out, mainly because the screen is so large.
Have you thought about an interface adaptor? As it's a BMW, there's a good chance you could buy a full interface adaptor for your stock H/U, meaning you can chance tracks using stalk controls, etc.

You can buy an interface which sorts it properly, I have one on my 5 series. Ipod in the glovebox and all the tracks/play lists etc on screen controlled by the idrive. Not at all locost though.

What are these interface things and where does one get prices from?

Oh and is it going to work out more expensixe than getting a 6 disk changer in the back!

Found the link for what my dad uses in his bmw 5 - here.

I was impressed with it, but then i hate ipods...

Lots of cheap second hand iPODs around, mine is a 15 meg G2 you can pick these up for next to nothing. The only problem with old ones is battery life, not an issue if you are in the car, just plug it in!

I've also got an old iPod with a dead battery kicking around, old 2G 15gb too, would be perfect for a car system.
Depends on what kind of changer you want (brand new/used?)
I'd go with the iPod, you can fit a lot more than 6 CD's onto them!

Just found http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product_list/c_path/286_324_328/spd/bmw.html - Ouch!
If you already have a changer, it might be possible to get an iPod to changer adaptor, which may be cheaper, certainly not "cheap" though!

If you can live with 1GB or 2GB of memory, then then BigPockets have some excellent deals at the moment, though they might be a little small for what you want.

1 GB
2 GB
