It keeps freezing have reinstalled windows and its still doing it, don't know what to do now so will have to pay to get it fixed

Try some different comaptible ram or try taking out a stick if it's got two, might not work but worth a go but another cause of freezing is fans stopping maybe try a cpu temp utility.

Somethings to have a go at. Did you do a clean install? Drive format etc during window setup??

Was the re-install using a recovery disc? You might not have all the correct (or latest) drivers installed.

Computer freezing are normally only a few different issues.

Over-heating is common. Is the fault always happening after a certain time (eg. 10 mins on) This could be the exhaust not kicking in on the CPU (tricky job to fix on a laptop) Laptops don't often have room for a fan sitting on top of the CPU like PC's so they have an exhuast system. Air is sucked across a heat transfer system and out the side/bottom of the machine.

Check any vents aren't blocked or the fan (blades often visible) is caked with dust.

With overheating on a laptop - that's all the average end-user can do. Make sure the laptop has its vents free (not sitting on your lap covering the vents with your trousers!)

Memory - Memory can fail and if installed in pairs you could try removing one of them to see if it improves things. Memory is very cheap these days and if one has failed it'd not cost more than £30 to sort. You can try using software to test the memory. Memtest is quite good but needs to be put onto an CD or floppy drive. Do a google for memory test - there's loads available.

Software - Could be drivers or something as simple as a screensaver kicking in. A good tool often underlooked is the system logs. The pc does log what it does and what crashes. Check this and it could show you the problem!

Right click My Computer and select Manage. On the left hnd side select Event viewer. Or Start - Run - (type) eventvwr (hit enter)

This is split into sections - Application, System, and Security (more if you're on Vista)

Look through and look for errors. Each one should have an EventID. You can often look these up on Tinterweb and find solutions.

It's only application and system you're interested in. Security just logs things like you logging in and out.

Drivers - It could be a driver that causes issues but if it's fine for a few mins and then not, it'd be less common. Drivers will often give a blue screen of death if they're seriously giving Windows problems. It's not common for them to freeze the PC but is possible.

I would be happy to fix the laptop for you (it's what I do for a living) but I'm not that close to you. It may cost money for parts too - depends on how new the machine is an how much you love it!

What brand is it and how new?

Please be cautious about having it fixed by PC World and the like. It could be a lot of money and no better when it's fixed. Have you an IT department at work that would sort it for you for a pack of beer?
