You need to find out what graphics processor your PC uses, e.g. NVidia, ATi, S3, Intel etc. and download the appropriate drivers.

If you have a separate graphics card, e.g. AGP or PCI express then you should be able to take it out and chances are the PCB will have some form of identification on it. If your motherboard has integrated graphics then (if chipset is not obvious) you'll need to find manufacturer and model number and look up which chipset it uses.

Yep - MB has integrated graphics.

Presuming it had the drivers before can it not find them again automatically if you just tell it to update the drivers?.

If not in the update part you should be able to direct it ot where the drivers are, they should be in a folder called

C:/windows/system

or c:/windows/system32

or any recovery Cd's that came with it.

Nope - no recovery CD and managed to loose all the drivers when I formatted.

that sound about right to me, I get alot of that with HP's and Packardbell's that I'm asked to look at

if your really lucky then the MB will have a model number writen on it

write down what you see on the very first screen when you turn it on (the one that only stays on for a second or 2)
or you might get it from the BIOS setup (press: del, F2, F10 or what ever its says for setup when you first turn it on - just don't save any changes)
there should be a big long code (called the bios string)
there are ID tools on various websites that will decoce it and tell you what you've got

failing that there are some ID tools that work with the serial numbers (normally a sticker on the MB somewhere - often on, or near the PCI slots)
