got a clip of video on my phone downloaded it to my laptop it's 3gp format media player won't entertain it, what free viewer do I need

I use Prism Video Converter

Vlc player will play it but I don't get any sound when I try it with files from my phone (K750i)

you should have got a CD with your phone, it has a player on there

WinAVI MP4 converts them easily.
