Setting the car up

Hi there, I have an Indy that I built and passed IVA a year ago however I've never had it set up or tracking done.
Should I have this set up by a specialist or just anywhere that does tracking?
I have a classic mini with everything adjustable possible on it and I had the tracking set up at Micheldever tyres and is so much nicer to drive! So I was thinking of doing the same with the Indy but wondered if my money might be better spent at a specialist for suspension and tracking set up?

I mainly use it for road use but do plan on doing a track day in the future but for now it's just road use.

Any help much appriciated

hi , I think you answered your own question there, if your mini is better then take the indy to the same folk, as you are already happy with and know their handiwork

Took my car to Procomp , I thought I had it set up pretty well before but vastly improved

As long as you give them your settings, a garage will be able to do it.

There's nothing specialist about setting it up, its just know what settings you want (that's what a specialist will be able to give you over a normal garage)

For an Indy you are best ringing MK and asking what they recommend.

On mine, I currently have 0 Toe on the front, 2 deg negetive camber front and 1deg negetive on the rear
It ran brilliant with the R888 but with the R1R's I get a lot of understeer so I need to tinker a bit.

Corner weighting is worth having done also

I have a Supertracker 4 wheel alignment kit, steering turntables, camber and castor measuring equipment and corner weight scales albeit the lever type and the expertise in using it after 47 years in the motor trade but the day I spent at Procomp and the £230 or whatever it cost was the best investment I made in my car. They start by testing and calibrating all of the dampers and springs using equipment that no garage or tyre company I know of hasfollowed by a complete set up , camber/castor / corner weighting etc . How many garages have corner weighting euipment? let alone someone that knows how to use it?

Ok I'll send procomp an email as they are a fair distance from me but if they are highly regarded then could be worth the trip!

Silly question, I've heard of corner weighting but not to sure what that involves?

Corner weighting is when the spring platforms on the coil overs are adjusted to make each wheel carry more or less weight, the aim on a road car is to have at least the same across each axle if not all four wheels although it's usually the best compromise. It can be tricky to do as each adjustment of one wheel affects the weight on the other three wheels.

Be prepared at Procomp for a lesson in chassis set up. They are a well oiled machine but it's still 6 hours work for the two of them.

They will also look over your car while working on it and spot other issues, they are nice like that!

I'd be interested to know how much Procomp are charging for a full set up? My car isn't through IVA yet but it'll need sorting eventually.

The cheese toasty is the only menu option and hits the spot.

i think it was something like 230 or 280 for the day. That includes the two of them on your car for a whole day, non stop. Amazing value.

They run procomp out of their old school sprawling garage. Which has more toys than the north pole.

Its a quality place. You must enquire about the vaporising oil burner / heater. Its genius.

Sounds like the sort of place I like. I do however predict a zero chance of them providing a gluten free cheese toasty. Even at £280 a day its very good value.

They are definitely worth it. I trailered my last car down from Glasgow to them as I couldn't find anywhere in Scotland that had any enthusiasm to do it. Great value and learned a lot.

Hi. Just been pointed in the direction of this thread.

Full setup inc. All dampers and springs dynoed measured and setup. Corner weighting and all other setup is a cost 0f £250 Inc Lunch, however the cheese toasties are no more. But the local cafe provide a wide variety on the menu.
