Any caravanners? Recommend me somewhere in Devon
steve8274 - 18/4/14 at 09:48 PM

Hi all
New to caravaning and Just got myself a nice tourer and would like to go to Devon in the summer. Just wondered if anyone had been to any nice sites and would recommend since there seems to be a plentiful amount to choose from.
Needs to be good for families with entertainment for them. Kids ages 3,7 and 16 so something which may please them all(although I doubt the 16 year old will be pleased with anything)
Thanks
Steve

Have you joined the caravan club etc, they have a search facility where you can tick off your needs etc.

Couple of other things (apologies if you're already aware): Get the van insured as it won't be covered under your car insurance (other than for third party damage) and check your breakdown cover - only the Green Flag policy through the CC would get our van home if car broke.

Try this site

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk

Loads of reviews on sites in Devon, found it really useful.

Try twitchen in woolacombe- which has a Huge sandy beach
Twitchen is one of 4 parks in woolacombe so you can use the facilities of them all
An open top bus does a loop of them and down to the beach so you dont have to drive
Good touring facilites and an easy run now the 361 bypasses barnstaple
My favourite area of devon - its beautiful

Thanks for the replies.
Caravan is insured and my checked my breakdown cover. Not a member of caravan club yet. Will look into that.
Have looked on ukcamp site website. Loads on there but that was the problem, too many to choose from and I would probably pick rubbish one which wouldn't go down well with wife and kids😜
Will have a look at croyde bay and twitchen.
Thanks

Twichen house at Wolacoombe is very good.
We have been to Woodlands park in south Devon for the last couple of years, it's got a small theme park attached with loads to do.

Another vote for Croyde Bay. It gets busy but is the one of the nicest places I've been to in the UK.

Biggest downside to us when we went to proper caravan sites (inc Caravan Club and Camping and Caravan Club) was that they tended to be mainly rows and rows of pitches.
Now we don't search for camp sites, we search for working farms that have pitches. Much more relaxed feel to them. Sites are usually much smaller, less crowded.
Depends what sort of camp site you want.

We toured in our camper a couple of years ago, and this was our favorite site... although slighty further than devon into cornwall...

Another vote for Croyde bay (Ruda)

not been for a few years, but I will go back, beautiful area, beach etc, and if the Sun is out, it cannot be beaten

Well just tried to book our dates at ruda and it says nothing available.😟 must be good. Might try and ring them tomorrow. Looking for first 2 weeks in August so obviously peak time.
Had a look at twitchen and says £944 for 2 weeks. Little steep I think!
Any others?

To be honest i'd rather your wobble box did not enter Somerset or Devon

Join the Caravan and Camping club (not the Caravan Club snobs ) and you'll get a book of their sites, the membership is £40 and they have rules to make camping pleasant not the p!ss up all night that a lot of sites have become these days and the units are kept a decent distance apart. There are Certificated sites as well which are next to nothing compared to commercial sites but you need to supply your own facilities.

£900 at twitchen
Are you sure they quoted you for touring
You can get a static for that
Get a quote on golden coast - same group - just as big a site - and just up the road
Still use all the facilities

steve8274 - 20/4/14 at 09:03 AM

Again thanks for replies. Will look into joining club.
Even if I let wife and kids it will still be my fault!
I double checked at twitchen cos I thought it was dear. Same price came up. Probably half the price of static but still too expensive. (For us anyway)
