rusty Alpine... actually, not that rusty for the age

onzarob - 14/4/08 at 06:54 PM

I thought you may of found one of these,,

... but no its an Sunbeam Apline...still very nice

ravingfool - 14/4/08 at 07:01 PM

Well.... obviously you would think it's an alpine, but in fact it's the TIGER :-) And the guy has 3 sets of engines + gearboxes. *ETA* The massively wide wheel and tyre combo might give away the engine history!

It's a complete rebuild job, as at some point someone dismantled the car almost completely. Not much left on the shell at all but he has all the bits and new bits, just need to reassemble it. The owner isn't interested any more as he'd rather play with his ferrari!

Guildford, hey? Guildford, Surrey?

Alpine or Tiger?

Have always fancied putting an Alpine replica body onto a Cobra replica chassis!!!

ravingfool - 14/4/08 at 07:33 PM

onzarob what car is that?

And yes Daimo, Guildford, Surrey. Seems to be the right kind of place to pick up old sports cars for very little money... as long as you don't mind a little polishing/ welding

Anyone know any particular issues with the Tiger that I should bear in mind? I currently know very little about them other than it'll be beautiful and worth a reasonable amount if put back together correctly.

I'm off to do a little research...

An Innocenti bodied Midget. Very rare and beautiful IMO

Very nice... it's got a bit of a TR4 look about it.

Talking of TRs, does anyone do a TR4/5/6 type replica? Yes, I know you can buy a TR6 Heritage shell, but I was thinking more on the lines of a kit car which you could put more modern engine, suspension, etc. into

Don't stop to think about it - just do it

Chances like that are few and far between...

Cheers

Alpine or Tiger if the rust sets in there are some very difficult bits to repair IIRC.
Very pretty car though. Don't Tigers have the same turning circle as a Routemaster?

The diffs are made from chocolate! If you see any Tiger races you'll see that they're always a rolling start!

Other than that, they're very cute....

A fair point, well made

as for rust, I live for the stuff as I already have an MGB, and I LOVE chocolate! actually I don't, but I'm sure I can deal with a dodgy diff somehow.

The fact that the guy has 3 engine + gearbox setups for the car definitely lies in favour of the car. Rebuild all of them, use the best one, then keep a spare and I guess that still leaves the 3rd which will need some kind of home...

Always been a fan of Tigers, usually see a couple at Brighton Speed Trials.

One thing you do notice is the lack of locating of the rear axle. If too much power is put down the axle winds up the springs and makes the car crab, until power is backed off.

Good find Take a mould of the body, and start flogging them!
