Just plain rude.....
Jasper - 6/9/08 at 02:27 PM

Don't you just hate it when somebody asks your advice on here, especially when it's a U2U, and you spend ages putting together all your vast wealth of knowledge in a reply, then you never hear another word from them......

Makes my blood boil ......

mookaloid - 6/9/08 at 02:29 PM

Yup - I know that feeling

DRC INDY 7 - 6/9/08 at 02:35 PM

Its the other way round for me i ask some people certain things about there cars hopeing to gain a bit of knowledge and they never respond back kind of makes it pointless at times

NS Dev - 6/9/08 at 02:46 PM

Its nice to hear back but I'm not too fussed, I like to see the end result in action!!

matt.c - 6/9/08 at 02:46 PM

Name and shame!

mr henderson - 6/9/08 at 02:52 PM

Have you checked to see if they have read it? By looking at the outbox. A couple of weeks ago I sent someone a U2U (in reply to a query he sent me) and haven't had a reply, and when I look at the outbox it is still showing 'Not Read'. Maybe he's on holiday, or hasn't noticed the quite small warning that shows when there is a new message.

John

mr henderson - 6/9/08 at 02:54 PM

OTOH if it's a general query I don;t think they should have sent a U2U in the first place, but asked the question on an open forum where we could all have benefitted from you carefully crafted answer.

Why not post it here, I at least will show some apreciation

John

UncleFista - 6/9/08 at 03:02 PM

TBH it's happened twice this week.

First I messaged someone who I've bought something from. The cheque cleared weeks and weeks ago and it was meant to have been sent. I messaged him asking what carrier it was sent with and does he have a tracking number ?

No answer

2nd was someone who U2Ud me asking for a favour, I replied that I couldn't do it at the mo', but in a week if he was still desperate, no problem.

No answer

It's just common courtesy surely ?

edit: and yes, I've checked to make sure they've been read...

I once sent you a lengthy U2U about the lightning process and your reply was tantamount to no reply

i suppose i'm a little guilty of this at the moment, i've asked a couple of people advice privately via u2u. had nice long answers and i haven't replied - this is simply because they've both given my different advice and i'm trying to think what to do next.

I asked privately as i thought a public discussion may end up being a slanging match and i didn't want that.

Hacker speak 1337 => LEET => Elite

mistergrumpy - 6/9/08 at 10:07 PM

Northern speak 1337 > leet > the light bulb in the room > "turn that leet on lad"

Well, I suppose you could reply and just say thanks?

John

NS Dev - 7/9/08 at 11:18 AM

LOL this all amuses me!!

I often just u2u my mobile number if somebody takes the time to call me then they probably are actually going to DO something rather than just THINK about it.

As I said, I like to see a result, rather than a thank-you (though they are nice too)

Take Froggy on here for example, he called me ages ago re. various bits and bobs, and to be honest i don't think I was that much help really, but now his Kitten van has TWO v twins

The results speak for themselves!!

bob - 7/9/08 at 03:37 PM

I'm More peeved when i send a wanted part FOC and dont get a thankyou or at least let me know the part has arived

milson - 7/9/08 at 07:59 PM

it is annoying especially when you thought you had agreed to buy something as well,

Jasper - 8/9/08 at 02:02 PM

Ehhhh????? I sent you my mobile number and said 'Give me a ring' - you can't get much more helpful than that! And the offer is still open.......

Benzine - 8/9/08 at 02:43 PM

would have been a bit costly.

...like the lightning process! (zing)

That seems more than fair to me, even if there was some expense involved, a bit unreasonable to expect someone to do a load of typing rather than to call them.

John

Syd Bridge - 8/9/08 at 06:20 PM

Hey Jasper, you think that's bad, try this.....

I see a u2u as a private thing between you and the other party, and should not be repeated.

I was Googling for a particular material's supplier, when bugger me I'm looking at my u2u, copied and pasted word for word, on a GT40's forum!!!! Blood boil?? Way past that!! But you can be well assured that gent will never get any useable advice from me ever again.

It put me off giving detailed technical advice to anyone on here, unless in person. And that's how it's going to remain.

Cheers,
Syd.
