car has been stood in garage with no exhaust now for about 3 months and not been started.so on friday after i had my exhaust done i went out and
bought 5 litres of fuel but it wouldnt start. i thought the battery sounded tired due to being stood so long so i charged it up overnight. went back
next day and still wont start. its firing and turning over but just wont start. fuel pump is priming and every few attempts to start there is an
almighty bang from the unburnt fuel in the exhaust. the car was running fine with old exhaust but was far too loud so i sold the silencers. but now
wont start at all.
will have to have a good look this weekend and get it running again.
cold start enrichment needs a tweak by the sounds of it.
In such situations I rely on something like easy start to get it running and see if it repeats on the next startup, rules out damp issues.
Have you disturbed the plug leads ? check the firing order.
Also take all the plugs out and spin the engine over to clear out the bores.
You want a can of
Cold starting mate. Probably flooded the hell out of it. Plugs out, clean off and leave it 24 hours. I know this because I've just come in from the freezing cold after suffering the same thing this weekend. Kit cars eh?!
Try a squirt of brake cleaner down the inlet, it works as good as easistart but isn't so harsh on the engine.
Out of interest, why is easy start hard on the engine (for the 2-3 cycles of fuelling each bore sees)? (genuinely curious, stories of engines getting addicted are interesting but to my mind do nothing but point out people haven't fixed the original problem).

i think its flooded also! will take plugs out this weekend and see what happens!

It causes pre-ignition. You tend to get a pretty nasty rattle out of the engine when it starts after a dose of ether, and it's even worse on diesels.
Yup, the easy start is the symptom of a knackered engine not the cause. They get "addicted" cos when it's the only thing which will start your engine it's the only thing which will start your engine
maybe you have the exhaust, bolted to th wrong side ?
