So basically I like the extra mpg of the DOHC engine, and the availability compared to others. But reading through my chris gibbs book, it says the
dohc is taller. Can anyone give me any more detail as to how much taller it is and whether it would fit in a haynes roadster? Can the sump be
shortened like the SOHC? Also what kind of mounting arrangement would need to be done? The book says you have to fab something up but I can't
imagine ford would modify the sierra shell/mounting plates just for a different engine.

The difference in quoted fuel economy is likely to be because the DOHC engine is injection, and the SOHC running carbs.
If you want a DOHC engine that isnt too tall the Zetec can be had very cheaply on eBay, even a brand new box engine is only £700.

IMO the DOHC 8v isn't worth entertaining, I was going to use one years ago, but they are prone to head cracking and warping, there is next to no
aftermarket parts for them.
Go for a Zetec, a 1.8 is much more powerful than the 2.0 8v, its lighter, plenty of aftermarket stuff, and cheap....
I have a Escort 2.0 RS2000 16v (pretty similar to the 2.0 DOHC from the Sierra) in my Haynes Roadster. The sump is off the Sierra DOHC, with 35mm
removed off. I have the Saturn Sports Car bonnet with a hump (now called NTS Engineering) and I'm using Megajolt and ZX6R Carbs. My engine
requires no CAT, due to its age and that was a big help when I put it through the IVA.
Honestly a Zetec would have been easier as your not just fitting an engine, you need custom manifolds and the such. But you aren't building a
Haynes if your afraid of a bit of fabrication!
The main reason I'm contemplating the DOHC is because I'm going to be looking for a donor, but there are little to no pinto ones left and
there are thousands of twin cam ones.

No reason not use a twink sierra as a donor, the MT75 gearbox it uses is a sweet box, a little bulkier than a Type 9, and about the same weight. A Zetec will bolt right up to it, take a look in my archive for my old MGB with a Zetec and Mt75 box.
yeah sounds good, don't want to make a massive bump in the bonnet then put a smaller engine in.
Also does anyone knowhat the mounts on the dohc are? Pics ould be great

get a twink donor and swap engines later on, I wouldn't worry overly about mpg in a toy car
The bonnet looks ok, its just an alternative Saturn bonnet for the Haynes Roadster. The engine mounts were made by placing the engine in the ideal
position in the frame, then fabricating mounts to suit. the engine mount rubbers are the popular choice of Landrover V8 mounts.

2.3 out of scorpio balance shaft delete and trottle bodies 200 bhp been done whoever says that you cannot get power out of i4 engine is just repeating pub talk bit heavy but nothing wrong with it
