I haven't used MS office for over a year

I agree for "Word" and "Powerpoint" type files it is fine, but macros, etc. from Excel don't work. If you use Excel for
anything other than basic stuff OpenOffice is not so good, and there are still lots of people who do still use MS Office

Various ways of getting a copy of MS Office. One way is to buy a trashed laptop that someone's dropped off Ebay for a few quid, take the codes
off that, format the hard disk and sell on the dropped laptop for repair.
Free MS office. And if the original owner bought MS office and hasn't re-used the codes there isn't a problem
