I hate PC's sometimes

My sisters computer wouldnt start last week so this morning i reinstalled windows but now her wireless connection (built in) doesnt work.
I went into device manager and everything in the 'other devices' list has a yellow ! next to it.
Im assuming one of these is the wireless.
Its on XP pro so if any of you pc nuts can help she will be happy

try deleting that item out of device manager and restart. it should reinstall it itself.

sounds like the drivers are missing

Go to the manufactures website and download the correct drivers or use the driver disc that came with the machine you'll need a patch lead hard wired into the router if you cant get web access on another PC on site.
Take it its a slaptop.
Cheers,
Bob

Reinstall the drver. When it asks for a location point it to Windows system 32 drivers folder and it should find some there to get it going.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Look on the laptop for the manufacturer (Dell, Acer, Asus, HP, Compaq, whatever), you go to their website, go to the support or downloads area, enter the model number and you should find all the drivers there - download them, unzip them and then install them.

Obviously, if you can't get onto the internet on that machine, you'll need to downlaod them on another then transfer them with a usb stick or CD....

Like wot he says ^^^^If he has a patch lead (normally in the router box) he should be able to plug direct into the router and bypass wireless Vince.

I had that problem with the Missus Laptop, it wouldn't pick up any drivers for the wifi card(nothing showing in device manager). I put the original driver cd in the laptop and installed them and it just worked.

True but Ive never had a problem with windows Lan drivers, wireless on the other hand.
Maddening that you need a working PC to be able to get on the net to sort out your duff un.

If you have eventually got it online, a windows update should identify any mising drivers - including the sound driver which will probably be something like AC97.

I agree AC97 is a bummer, uninstall the multimedia device, restart the machine, stop the machine automatically loading the driver and load the driver manually.
Cheers,
Bob
