eBay dispute advice
I sold my old sky plus box on ebay after upgrading. It was working fine when I last used it so sold it as working.
I have had an email back from the winner bidder saying they cannot get the box to record or pause, they have spoken to sky and they say it is a
corrupt hard drive.
Where do I stand on this as it is my work against theirs. I know from previous experience that ebay/paypal favour the buyer in disputes, so without
any proof that it was working when I sent it am I just going to have the funds taken out of my paypal account.
My plan is to ask the buyer to send the box back at their expense and if it does turn out to be not working I will give a full refund plus the postage
on receipt. If it does work they can have the box back if they pay for the postage again.
Does this sound fair? And do you think that ebay will think its fair as if the buyer does not and ebay agree then im guessing they will just refund
their money through paypal.
Any one had anything similar happen and can offer some advice?
Thanks
Chris

What SHOULD happen, is they STFU and you ignore them..
However, if they paid via paypal.... then chances are if they complain to paypal, they will find in their favour and take the money back from you...

Legally it's caveat emptor, sold as seen etc etc etc. But Ebay do like supporting the buyers not the sellers so you might well find Ebay will
suspect you tried flogging a dead unit.
Of course the real question is do you really own it to sell it on? Certainly with Virgin Media you don't actually own the box and have to give
it back when you leave....
I think what you've suggested is entirely fair. When I bought some broken RAM chips from the states Ebay made me pay to send them back to the
vendor...

Bet they haven't got a sky + subscription! So all they get is normal sky. They would also need to get the new box paired with their card
too.
Cheers

I did wonder this! But they did say they got sky to update their account.
I was told by the sky engineer (when I first upgraded to sky plus) that because I hadn't owned the box for a year it still belonged to sky so he
had to take it back. He then went on to tell me how he was making a nice earner selling second hand boxes and dishes, so I doubt the box ever made it
back to sky. I have never heard of anyone having to return their box to sky though when they have cancelled their contract.
The transaction completed 2 weeks ago tomorrow.
Will email them and ask them to send the box back. I think as long as I keep in contact and try and be fair hopefully paypal will see it that way.

My bet would be, that they've not asked sky to pair the card. They should tell sky that there's is in for repair and they've just
been lent this one, then sky will pair it for them.
