WTD: laptop advice

Looking ahead for a laptop fopr my daughter who is going to uni in September. I have looked around a bit and found this one which looks OK.

It's got:

Intel Dual Core 2.2GHz processor
3GB RAM
500GB Hard disk
Widescreen display
CD/DVD player/writer
Card reader.

Any opinions/alternative suggestions? (Doesn't have to be red/pink though that would be nice... she says )

Well Dells are pretty reliable in my experience (in fact I'm using a 10+ year old Dell to write this). It's got G wifi which is good. Only downside in my book is that it's get a webcam built in After those remote access issues in that US school I think one without is probably favourable!!!

What does she need from the laptop? Is it just word processing?

Decided to go for the one I first listed. She already has a laptop (old one donated by granny) but she will nto be doing anything too heavy duty (games, etc.). Mainly for documents, storing photos, music, etc. plus interwebbing, watching the odd DVD. I think it should be OK

What type of old laptop does she have ? it may have a resale value on here if it has a Comms port as this is essential for most of us when mapping ECU's newer laptops dont have this port
