Broadband router help please
Hi, Im having a few connection problems and wondered if it could be my router? Do they ever go wrong? The symptoms are
-when someone rings up it usually knocks the internet off but still says connected to local area network
-I bought a wireless printer and when i switch this on its does the same
-I can be browsing the web then all of a sudden the connections gone, but sometimes it still works on certain sites (like locostbuilders) but others
just show page cannot be displayed.
-sometimes when i open a new tab (usually the third one) that tab freezes and wont open anytghing, but if i leave it open and open another it works
fine. (i suspect this one wont be router related but worth a mention)
Can anybody offer any possibilitys please, i have no idea how to test the router, and know it was really hard to get working originally, but since
then its always been fine until about a year of this now.
Router is D-link DSL-G604T by the way Thanks.

Check that all of the phones in your entire house have a filter on them at the wall socket, sounds vaguely familiar!
Has the new shiney wireless printer also got the fax facility plugged in  (without a filter on)

Routers do go pete tong. You can try switching over ADSL filters as they can go south to but last time I had a problem with the connection
intermitently dropping it was a shagged BT router....

Never thought about the filters, do they go wrong? Theres one on every phone and on the sky box, and the fax facility isnt connected up, the printer
stands alone and just goes through the router. If i knew how to id turn its wireless(ness) off and just hard wire it.
For £20 is
THIS worth a try?
The d-link never has given the range it said on the box, i cant even pick it up in the bedroom

My guess is the Filters - The latest batch of "BT" Filters are Poo! If you have just got a new contract then chances are its these - they
really are that bad.
The latest Black Sky router is superb - good range, speed and software.
Plug your PC into the main socket (disconnect the rest) and test every filter individually. A balla cher I know but its the easiest way to do it.

We only have one filter on the main socket where the broadband and base phone are connected and never have any problems. Download TCP optimizer ans
run it on your computer and see if it helps.

The filters are as old as the broadband contract and the router, im guessing about 5 years. Nothing has changed in this time except the pc a couple
of years ago, and more recently the printer. Ive ordered a couple of filters, but knowing my luck ive probably ordered rubbish ones, but ill give
them a try first then. Thanks.

If you have a burglar alarm connected to the phone line that will need a filter too.
