Laptops direct or ebuyer or just possibly Dell
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

there are always deals on somewhere
if you want it to last you should look at something thats a bit higher spec than you need right now
personaly I'd got with a decent mid spec ASUS (not ACER) that should last me 5 years+ (my old ASUS one is 8 years old and still going)
maybe something like this:
http://www.stak.com/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=13310
or this:
http://www.stak.com/store/viewItem.asp?idProduct=13306
but if your on a budget Dell do some quite cheap....

I guess it depends how long you want it to last etc...
I would only buy Dell or Toshiba now... having worked with a lot of laptops over the last couple of years these are the only two that seem to be
"student proof" (I.E. capable of withstanding neglect and high levels of abuse) and reliable...
The poverty spec Dell inspiron 15" is about £300 I believe... it is a good machine and sells by the million!
The last Dell I bought has only just died on me... was used almost daily for the last 6 years!

Wouldn't go Dell - they're all the one's I seem to repair.
HP/Compaq - seem to just go on forever... ultimately depends what you want one for. Games are a no brainer on a Laptop - extensive use for long
periods just wears them out.
Otherwise - they're alright.
EDIT: Curry's are clearing out the Compaq's cheap as they are now owned by HP.

Remember that you can still get a FREE laptop with mobile broadband contracts - worth a thought
