AVG

Seems AVG 9 is about to be replaced with AVG 2011. Running XP but the computer seems to get slower with every new incarnation of AVG and Firefox for that matter.
Should I update to 2011, switch to Avast or what? And what browser is still reasonably slimline?

ive got AVG 2011 running on my desktop and my sons laptop, both XP, they do not run any slower or quicker, in my opinion.

i also have CCleaner, downloaded it from Hippo.com , usefull program that cleans out your temp files and fixes registry problems, give that a try too.

I used to have AVG but at some point it changed from checking files on download to checking on run/open. I switched to Avast and have been happy with it.

I also use Ccleaner to get rid of sh|te from time to time, and do a defrag every now and then (Auslogics Defrag is my weapon of choice)

Microsoft security essentials and malwarebytes anti-malware

Sorted

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

Avast and superantispyware I use them on both laptops, mine on windows7 and swmbo's on xp no problems on either. I've found them to be a great combo.

Thanks all. Desktop currently has AVG9, malwarebytes, spybot and ccleaner and gets defragged but is still slow. Lappy has same except Avast instead of AVG.
Can I just use MS Security and drop the spybot and malwarebytes or keep both or either?

After much thought updated to AVG 2011. Pants. Slow as a wet week.

Changed to MS security essentials on the desktop with malwarebytes. Much improved speeds. Lappy stays on Avast, Spybot and Malwarebytes. That way I hope if something virussy gets through one lot of protection I may keep the other running to help with sorting out.

I still think Firefox is getting clunky. Takes about 7 seconds to open.
