OT Returned eBay item

Thought id ask the advice of LCB on this one just to be sure.

I sold my donors steering wheel quite a few months ago on fleabay, i forget the numbers but i know is cost much more to post than the wheel sold for.
About a month ago, i received the wheel back in the post. DHL had repacked it and returned it to me. I tried to contact the buyer but it had been too long since it sold and i couldn't find any contact details but thought id keep it anyway.

Then yesterday i received an email from the buyer asking where it was (quite why they left it nearly 5 months, i dont know!). I explained the situation and have had another email today asking for it to be sent to her new address (they moved hence it was returned to me).

Where do we stand postage wise? Obviously if i pay for it, im going to loose money due to the postage costing more than the wheel sold for. Can i ask for them to pay?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

you can try, but i doubt they're going to pay again. how much was postage? (or is that the bit you can't remember?)

i'd be annoyed, but just pay it and grin and bear it...

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

The buyer gave you an 'incorrect' address, how were you to know they would have moved by the time it got there, I'm sure they did!!

Ball firmly in their court IMO.

If they didn't have their "correct" address registered with eBay at the time of sale, I'd tell 'em hard luck unless they pay for the postage again.
eBay will find in your favour if the address was wrong.

Why should you be out of pocket for their mistake ?

Is it too late for them to leave feedback? If so ask them to pay. It's not worth getting negative feedback for a couple of quid postage in my opinion.

Speedy, do they know you have got the wheel back ??
As you sent it, so they can claim off The PO ?

also why would they wait 4-5 months before questioning its whereabouts ?

if it was paid by paypal, has the time limit lapsed? You dont want them to just claw it back!

But to be fair, its their fault. Id bill them for postage. In fact, id probably just say you sold it on and save yourself the effort.

I ordered a spot weld drill from ebay which did not arrive, contacted seller who sent another one no problem. Imagine my surprise when 8 MONTHS later the first one turned up, I know royal mail are slow but that defies belief. Tried contacting seller but he is no longer registered.

Once its past 30 days I don't think they can do anything really? Past 60 days I'm not sure they can leave feedback.

As others have said it was their fault so they should pay really.

Refund them the £2 and say you sold it again. If they moan, you have the return paperwork from DHL, right?

They've got no right to moan really, they moved.

If when you sold it you got a message asking to hold on to it for a couple of weeks as they're moving house you would have done right? Unless they had to move quickly, and that just raises more questions!

I'd ask for the postage again, and send them the DHL return documents to prove it was sent to begin with
