Why can't I read the SD card from my camera?
My computer, which is around 4 years old and running Windows XP Home, has a card reader which will accept various card types including the SD card
from my camera.
It will read the 1GB card in my old camera OK but not the 4GB in my new camera. In addition the same reader includes a USB2 port which also wont
connect to the camera if I use a cable although if I plug the same cable into one of the USB ports on the computer they work OK.
I had thought it was the reader unit which had failed but as it reads the 1GB card that seems to suggest something else.
Do I need an updated driver or similar?
As you'll realise I'm not the best with computers so any help would be appreciated.
John.

The 4GB card is probably a SDHC card that the reader cannot read

This might shed some light on your problem ...

Have you installed XP SP3? That will more than likely solve the problem

won't read anything over 500mb, I guess they didn't think to future proof it when built.

SDHC was an extension to SD to take it over the 2GB boundary. Hardware for it only took off 1-2 years ago, so your device is probably only
SD-Compatible.
£5 reader from ebay + latest service packs should sort it....
Alternatively, just plug the camera into your PC...

For cards that size, if you have a FireWire port in your computer, I would recomend a FireWire reader.
Soooo much faster

Yeah, the new card will be SDHC and you will need a 3rd part addapter, usb is prolly ok (£1-2off ebay) for most people but if you using it for large
data transfers a firewire might not be stupid if you can
