Program being rude and needs attention NOW
Here's the problem. I'll have some programs doing things (like extracting from a zipped file) and while it's running I'll do
something else, like posting here. Thing is most of the time once that thing is done it pops right up and often means I've typed half a post
into winrar, which is annoying at least and downright rude at worst. Sometimes these programs are really polite and just flash orange on the taskbar,
does anyone know how I can make all programs do this, or even what it is I'm asking for (because going into google and asking "how to stop
programs popping up" comes up with irrelevant pap as usual"

The geek speak for this kind of bad behaviour is "grabbing focus" or "stealing focus"
On windows the worst thing is it's a deliberate choice by an application writer to enable it as it's off by default.
You might get lucky and be able to force it back again. See:

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
