Computer Techie question

Is there any way I can work out when a piece of software was installed on a pc?

Depends what type of software it is....

You could look at the date the files were created in the "C:/program files" folder. Or, ideally, figure out which registry keys are associated with the installation of that particular application and lookup the dates they were generated within the registry.

In control panel and add and remove programs it shows the installed date.
