vanishing car seller - ebay advice needed

Dear all

A few weeks ago I won a car on auction on ebay - I spoke to the seller several times and arranged to collect the car and had his mobile number and home address. Seemed kosher enough so I took cash with me.

Went to collect the car (two hours train ride away) and on arrival exchanged texts... ' no probs will be there in an hour been held up' he said. Over an hour went by and so I duly rang the sellers mobile : no reply.

Spent a few hours trying to contact him and still no reply. No-one at home either.

Smelling a rat (not to mention well peed off by this stage) I duly headed back on the train home - relieved that I still had my money in my pocket, albeit £50 out of pocket on train fares.

Since then no reply to my texts/emails/calls, no response.. nothing - not that I particularly want to speak to the guy ever again.

The thing is - how do I get the 'purchase awaiting payment' removed off my ebay account?

The various 'help/advice' pages they supply are so far proving hopeless in this rather odd scenario.

Its not a great issue, but I just want the thing off my 'won items' list for good.

any help on this very welcome !

cheers
Richard

You can mark as payment sent and give him bad feedback.

To the right hand side of the auction list in my eBay purchases there's a little arrow. Click and it brings up small menu.

Hi Ben

Yup I considered this option but dont want it logged that I have 'paid' the guy when I actually havent.

or then again would it really make much difference? The guys hasnt been on ebay since - seems dormant.

It really doesn't make any difference. You could open a dispute against him but it's pointless.

Or wait 90 days and it'll disappear anyway

Another thing to consider is if you mark as paid he'll get charged listing fees and auction fees! So if it was a decent car the fees will go a little way towards that train fare

He probably ploughed the car head on into a tree because he was texting whilst driving.....Doh

I think I will go the '90 days' route - and see what happens.

Its not actually causing me a problem - in fact in many ways the incident did me a favour.

The car I eventually bought (a Fiat Punto Sporting.. 1.2 16v.. a superb little thing) was slightly more expensive but much much better all round. So with hindsight a blessing in disguise.

That was bought off ebay from a guy with great feedback - so pays to check out the sellers profile.

a lesson learned and all that !

cheers all

Personally I'd put it as payment sent, because you did send it, and you know it got there because you were there at the time!
