Thunderbird 7 & 8 very slow

Since upgrading to Tbird 7 and then quickly to 8 (do they know something???) it seems to be running very slowly, e.g. click on a folder and wait 10, 20 seconds or longer to actually move to that folder. Befoer, it used to be instantaneous.

Ideas, chaps? (and yes, I have googled for answers)

TB 7 ? 8!? I'm on version 2.? And looking at

Ooops.. just remembered ( lucid moment :-)
I Reinstalled 2.0 a while back as that was the Version that IMO worked best.
But it's messing up now as well... it will no longer 'send'
My Son claims using anything other than something like Gmail is just a problem in waiting..
Only Old guys use these Mail Aps any more.
Perhaps the rascal is Right?

change to gmail - do all your email on line - never worry about it again
