Slow computer
Just of late my pc seems to be really slow especially on my yahoo email, it occasionally freezes all together and every so often the hard drive starts
making a noise like its down loading something. Any techies out there that can help.

If your HD is making 'working' noises it could well be that your low on RAM and it's haveing to use the HD to supplement it, is it
and old PC with not much RAM (ie. under 1gb)?

Pc is about 4 years old. Pretty sure it had 4gb of ram but how can i check ?
Disk cleanup is done regularly and defrag checked.
Run adaware every so often too.

Should be ok then but you type "dxdiag" or "dxdiag.exe" (I forget which) into the "run" bar in the program menu
and the info will be there.
Try running CCleaner and MalwareAntiBytes(sp?) to see if anything can be cleaned up etc.
While it's running slow you can always press CTRL+ALT+DEL and look in the task manage if anything is using up lots of memory or cpu %.
Just some basics to try before more knowledgable peeps turn up to help

If i do CTL,ALT,DEL then processes there are loooooooadsssss of things going on.

Going from aboput 9% and spiking to 75+.
Idling between 9 and 45%

If you're not doing 'owt on your PC then nothing should be hitting 75% I'd doubt!
Tell us the offending process names (rundll32.exe etc.), and it may shed some light (or likely not  )

if your HDD is working more than usual then it's memory you need to look for. When the PC runs out of RAM (memory) it save some of the memory to
disk. This is known as paging. I'd use task mgr to identify any process that's using lot's of memory and then try to find out if
that's normal usage (web browsers are bad, especially on adobe flash)

Hard drives are by far the slowest component in a computer but they rarely make that much noise
What operating system are you running?
When did you last re install windows?
Have you cleaned it inside recently?
IF it isn't hard drive then I would use memtest to test your ram for errors as bad ram can make a system crawl

Not sure of some of those processes (exept the dreaded Norton AV (NCRSRVCE.EXE)).
Before you try anything difficult I'd personally download CCleaner (don't forget the registry cleaner bit of the program too) and let do
it's thing, followed by MalwareAntiBytes (or similar) scan

you seem to only have about 5% RAM available and PF usage at 3gb looks very high to me.
Is your task manager showing anything using lots of memory? (you can sort the columns to easily see what is using the most) You could upgrade the
memory from the current 2GB to say 3 or 4GB but on its own it wouldn't cure this you still need to be finding out what is hogging the memory.

Thanks for alll the help guys .Seems it only has 2gb of ram 1gb in each of 2 slots. Wheres the best place to get some more 2gb or 4gb desktop pc

I buy mine from Dabs.com or overclockers, but as said above, I'd try to pin down what's hoovering up all your available RAM at the moment
first

You seem to have a lot of unwanted junk or possible malware running in the background time for a clear out and virus scan or fresh install of
Windows.
Your running Norton --- which is the equivalent of trying to drive with your foot on the brake.
AAWService.exe should be Lavasoft Adaware a good product however recently a lot of people around the web have been posting having problems with
it hoovering up resources.
More than 6 iexplore.exe ---- seems odd not mention of it anywhere on the web which sets off alarm bells and any case IE6 is an obsolete
product.

There are 91 processes running .
One of the iexplore.exe is using 993,435k another is using 118,628k another 91,000k another 98,800

Bloody hell, "993,435k" thats a lot!
As a comparison, I've 3 iexplore running: 24500k, 6009k, 57000k

End and use firefox or another alternative. IE does tend to get lot's of search bar and add ons installed. If you want to stick with it then try
removing some of those. Also noticed you've got the trustier rapport software installed, no doubt your bank suggested it, that could be removed.
I'd look at all of my runny processes in mem / cpu priority and remove the ones that you don't need.
Also question any high men / cpu processes, as flibble said, 1GB of memory being used by 1 IE process is a lot, it's half your memory!!

i re format my pc every year or so just to clean it up properly as it does get messy in its old age.
when you get it all set back up just make a norton ghost image of it so you can get back up and running quickly.
then dont save owt on the same drive letter as the windows install.
Have you used CPU-z to check temperatures of ye CPU etc....
maybe dust on your processor cooler etc...
more likely to be just need a format and reinstall.....
