Where to buy old-style memory?
I have an elderly but fairly powerful Dell 450 PC - quad processor, so it really works well with Linux Mint. At the moment I have 2MB memory, but
I'm tempted to take it to the max 4MB. It's PC2100 DDR, which is a bit old-style but still available.
So - can anyone recommend a good UK memory supplier who keeps a decent range at sensible prices?

i presume you mean gb not mb? i have a bag of old memory in the office ill check and see what i have lying around over the weekend if you can wait?

My first proper PC was an ancient XT clone with 512kB and 5/14" floppy drives, but I upgraded to a 286 that had 1MB and a 20MB hard drive (but
most DOS programs could only use 640k). The 286 was the first PC I owned that I could run Windows on (Windows 3.1 in standard mode).

You could try crucial.com.
If you go for ebay make sure its 100 % compatible
low density ramm.
Bought HD stuff and it worked on one of our PCs
and not the other. Clashing with the old ramm apparently.
Someone might be along to explain more accurately.
And my first computer was a 48K Spectrum

It is a tie-break!! Me too. And I still have mine and think with its original box but knackered transformer!!!
Hated it when it took 15 mins to load a game from a cassette tape for it to stop working just before it had finished loading!!!

One thing I'll say is don't go too mad it's not really worth it - at work I can have a web browser (average 7 or 8 tabs open), two
versions of AutoCad, Outlook Express and Photoshop all open at the same time and my RAM usage never gets close to the 4GB's installed. At home
I've got a computer with 8GB and Windows 7 64bit and nothing I do ever gets close to needing anything near that amount of RAM - in fact I took
4GB out as an experiment and honestly couldn't tell any difference!
Mind you the work computer has 2 quad core cpus which probably helps - although they are horrible Xeon things.....

My first job was as a computer operator . IBM 1401 - 4K memory
IBM 7070 - 16 K.
Memory was little ferrite rings hand-threaded into a matrix.
I'm addicted to brake fluid, but I can stop anytime.

I have some 1 x 1 Gig PC3200, 1 x 512mb PC2100, 2 x 512mb PC3200
I'll carry on looking. Are you using all your RAM slots now?
What model name is the PC?

I'd be interested in the 1GB PC3200 if it's DDR1 184 Pin non ECC stuff? that is of course if Mr Jenkins doesn't want it and/or
you're looking to get rid? 2no. would be good if you have them?

Yeah, I'd be interested depending on what you want for it? (if you did find another that would be great!?)
Nothing against Crucial - but as the PC it would be going into is a bit of an experiment to see how little you can spend to build a PC that does
everything 80% of computer users need...... in total it's cost me £25 so far plus some bits I had lying around I'm not going to spend
twice that on RAM from Crucial in this instance
