user settings transfer wizard

put the XP CD in the machine and one of the options is user settings migration wizard. it will produce a folder for you that you can burn to CD then reimport after the update which will contain all you mail , ie favorites software settings etc

If you've got link cable (serial/ethernet) the XP wizard thingy will copy the info across. It will generate a floppy to run on the old machine to kick off that side of the process.

I recently did it between an old Win98 machine and XP. The problem was that it took 12 hours over an old laplink cable and failed to take all of the email folders. I tried many permutations but finally settled for hanging an IDE cable out the back of the old machine to a CD burner and copying all the outlook express mail files (.dbx I think) and exporting all the account settings (.iaf) and burning them to a CD. Then I put the CD in the new machine and imported the settings (for the mail server) and copied over the old dbf's. Bingo!

Cheers,

Neil.
